Solicitor and CEDR accredited Civil and Commercial Mediator
Kerry Joan-Law is a litigator, mediator,(CEDR accredited), business and employment specialist. A member of the Law Society, Civil Mediation Council, a Member of the Employment Lawyers Association. She often delivers specialist seminars to businesses on updates in the law and has written regular articles for the Oil Gas and Shipping industry. She has handled multi-litigant disputes up to £2.6 million, but has also taken on more valuable single litigant disputes in excess of £12.5 million. Kerry has represented numerous blue chip and large corporate clients throughout her practising life and undertakes a variety of commercial business sales and purchases of business.
Kerry also oversees the running of the conveyancing department which she has built up over the last 10 years and litigates on complex property disputes.
Employment background - 1996 -2001 business owner East Anglia Costing Services, law cost draftsman and supreme court taxing participant on behalf of law firms. Kerry then completed her LPC course and went to Wortley Redmayne & Kershaw in 2002 Chelmsford and commenced her trainee solicitors contract in litigation,employment, High Court injunctions and Commercial Property. From Chelmsford she returned to London in 2004 to work for Gowen & Stevens Solicitors in Litigation and Employment. In late 2006 Kerry then moved to Norfolk following her family's relocation and worked for Fosters as Deputy Head of Litigation and Employment. In October 2008 Kerry then aspired to set up her own firm which she has successfully run in excess of 10 years.
Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives FCILEX
Jenny is a Chartered Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives having qualified 8 years ago prior to working and studying for 5 years before qualification. She is a highly experienced residential property lawyer undertaking both freehold and leasehold sales, purchases, re-mortgages, transfers of part and inter-family transfers.
Jenny is also able to provide advice in relation to adverse possession claims, first registrations and title queries. She currently has a case load of mixed general conveyancing work but is also dealing with high value singular transactions in excess of £2.65 million.
Jenny heads up the conveyancing department.
In her spare time, she enjoys socialising, running and both organising and participating in fundraising events for St Helena's Hospice, a charity in her home town of Colchester.
Employment background - Jenny started her legal career in Ipswich at Bates Wells & Braithwaite as a Trainee Legal Executive in December 2004. In January 2007, Jenny joined the firm now known as Gotelee in the market town of Hadleigh where she stayed until 2012. Jenny qualified as a Legal Executive in June 2010 and in 2012 she returned to Ipswich to practice at Hayward Moon Property Lawyers before making the jump to Norfolk in August 2013 taking up employment with Mills & Reeve. In January 2015 Jenny moved to Clapham and Collinge and finally in October 2018 Jenny moved to KJL Solicitors to Head up the Conveyancing Team.
Elizabeth Lawson qualified as a Solicitor in Norfolk dealing with Private client work (wills and probate), conveyancing and matrimonial law. Elizabeth returned from an Oxfordshire practice to join the team at KJL Solicitors preferring to be closer to her roots and she has stayed. Elizabeth is experienced in all types of residential conveyancing including development and agricultural law. Elizabeth undertakes seminars delivering invaluable advice in relation to tax and inheritance planning and successfully manages the Private Client Department.
Employment background - Elizabeth started out following obtaining her law degree and LPC course as a paralegal working for Howes Percival. In 2010 she undertook her training contract with Hood, Vores & Allwood in matrimonial, conveyancing and private client work. In 2010 Elizabeth transferred to Oxford to work in the private client department of Lightfoots LLP and finally in February 2012 Elizabeth joined KJL Solicitors to undertake conveyancing and private client work. Elizabeth will return to the private client department upon her return to work following long term absence.
Private Client Advisor and Trainee Solicitor
Shreena joins us having worked for a large national company where she predominately undertook work dealing with wills, lasting powers of attorney and provided advice on court of protection matters, probate and estate planning. Aside from her continued commitment to private client work, Shreena is now a training to be a solicitor working within the litigation, employment and family departments. Shreena will qualify as a solicitor in March 2021.
Rachael commenced employment with KJL Solicitors as a business administration apprentice in 2018, she completed her level 3 business administration City and Guilds in 2019. In our continued support and development of our staff and their on-going training, we are now supporting Rachael through the Council of Licensed Conveyancers qualification "CLC" to qualify her as a probate practitioner and a licensed property conveyancer. Rachael should reach qualification in 2022.
Legal Cashier, Compliance Manager and Float
Sophie re-joins KJL Solicitors after a year away working at Barclays Bank. Sophie is training to be a legal cashier, is the firms compliance officer and is an extremely devoted float assisting between the departments as required.
Administrator and Receptionist
Suzanne joins KJL Solicitors as a former legal secretary. Suzanne covers the office reception, oversees file administration and organises and assists where-ever required.
Angela is the practice manager, she has 40 years experience in the legal sector and deals with client care, recruitment, buying services and overseeing back office administration.
